WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
This course moves away from operation and focuses on the supervision of plant. Key modules include:
- Regulatory Framework: Deep dive into HASWA (Health and Safety at Work Act), PUWER, and LOLER.
- Risk Management: How to identify plant-specific hazards and review Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS).
- Supervising Operators: Understanding the certification requirements for operators and how to verify competence.
- Exclusion Zones: Implementing and maintaining safe working distances around 360° and 180° machinery.
- Lifting Operations: Basic awareness of the requirements for supervising lifting with plant equipment.
- Ground Conditions: Assessing the suitability of terrain for different types of heavy machinery.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
This course is suitable for both existing supervisors and those looking to move into a leadership role:
- Experience Level: No prior plant operating experience is required, though a general understanding of construction site environments is highly beneficial.
- Fitness: No specific physical requirements as this is a theory-based course.
- Materials: All course training manuals and stationery are provided by AT Plant Training.
- PPE Required: If the course involves a site walk-around, candidates will need a Hard Hat, High-Visibility Vest, and Safety Boots.
ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATION
Testing focuses on the comprehension of safety standards:
- Theory Assessment: A comprehensive written paper or professional discussion covering plant legislation and supervisory responsibilities.
- Certification: Successful candidates receive the NPORS N034 Certificate, demonstrating their competence in plant safety oversight to principal contractors and health and safety auditors.
