WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Our training covers the full spectrum of 360° operation, ensuring you are “site-ready” upon completion:
- Pre-Start & Stop Checks: Identifying structural damage, hydraulic leaks, and engine maintenance.
- Safe Traveling: Manoeuvring the machine across various terrains, inclines, and rough ground.
- Working in Confined Spaces: Understanding the swing radius and maintaining safe exclusion zones.
- Excavation Techniques: Digging vertical trenches, grading, leveling, and creating stockpiles.
- Lifting Operations: Basic awareness of using the excavator as a crane (subject to LOLER regulations).
- Quick Hitch Safety: Mandatory training on the safe attachment and removal of buckets and accessories.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Experience Level:
- Novice: 10-day intensive course.
- Refresher/EWT: 1-day assessment for experienced operators.
- Fitness: Good physical health, coordination, and eyesight.
- PPE Required: Candidates must provide their own Hard Hat, High-Visibility Vest, and Steel-Toed Safety Boots.
- CITB HS&E Test: Required to have been completed within the last 2 years.
ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATION
The assessment is split into two rigorous parts to ensure total competence:
- Theory Test: A professional discussion or written test covering machine safety, site legislation, and operator responsibilities.
- Practical Test: A series of timed manoeuvres including trenching, loading a dumper, and traveling the machine over obstacles.
Successful candidates receive the NPORS Excavator 360° Trained Operator (red) Card valid for 2 years, and then subject to further assessment within 2 years and an NVQ Level 2 to receive the NPORS Excavator 360° Competent Operator (blue) Card, valid for 5 years.
