WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
These courses focus on the legal and practical responsibilities of a site supervisor. The curriculum is updated regularly to reflect current HSE guidance:
- Health & Safety Law: Navigating the Health & Safety at Work Act and how it applies to daily site supervision.
- Behavioral Safety: Understanding the “human element” of accidents and how to foster a positive safety culture.
- Site Inductions & Tool Box Talks: Developing the communication skills to brief teams effectively.
- Risk Management: Mastering the “Point of Work” risk assessment and monitoring site-specific hazards.
- Occupational Health: Identifying risks related to noise, vibration (HAVS), and hazardous substances (COSHH).
- Plant Safety: Specific focus on managing 360° and 180° excavator exclusion zones and lifting operations.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- For S029 (Full Course): Designed for existing or aspiring site supervisors and foremen. A good working knowledge of construction site activities is required.
- For S033 (Refresher): Candidates must hold a valid (or recently expired) NPORS S029 Construction Site Safety Supervisor card.
- Fitness: No specific physical requirements, though mental alertness and engagement are key to the theory-based assessments.
- PPE Required: Usually not required for classroom sessions unless a site-walk is scheduled by the instructor.
ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATION
Both the full course and the refresher require successful completion of the following:
- Multiple-Choice Examination: A theory paper testing your knowledge of legislation and safety protocols.
- Coursework/Exercises: Participation in group risk assessment exercises and safety briefings during the session.
- The Card: Upon successful completion, you will receive the NPORS Construction Site Safety Supervisor Card, valid for 5 years.
